# 422 - Lighthouses of Taiwan.

# 418 - Augustin Fresnel (1788 - 1827), Inventor of Fresnel Lense

On 03.05.2019 France issued this stamp to honour Augustin Fresnel, the inventor of Fresnel Lense which are now widely used in Lighthouses.

This is a pre-paid envelope featuring the Suao Lighthouse (left). This pre-paid envelope was issued on 23.05.2018 at the same time of the stamp issue. The stamp to the right is Tungyin Tao Lighthouse. The stamp was issued on 19.08.2017.

# 411 - Lighthouses of Germany.

On 6th June 2019 Germany issued a new stamp featuring the Lighthouse of Campen. This is entirely a new design deviating from the design of the previous years. This cover has a first day of issue Bonn cancellation.

The lighthouse seen on the stamp is Tungyin Tao Lighthouse. The stamp was issued on 19.08.2017 under the theme Scenic Taiwan.

# 409 - Lighthouses of Denmark

On 16 May 2019 Denmark issued five stamps. On this cover you will see three of them. From L - R are Lyngvig Lighthouse, Hammeren Lighthouse and Omo Lighthouse. The other two stamps not seen on this cover are Taksensand and Hirtshals Lighthouse.

It is unfortunate that one of the stamps has been disfigured with two red bars with a pen despite having wave cancel to the right of the stamp. All I can do is to keep complaining until the  post office staff understand ho stupid they are.

By the way this is a new country to my collection.

# 408 - Lighthouses of U. S. A.

# 407 - Cover from Netherlands

The stamp on this cover created controversy initially. On the background of the stamp behind the picture of the lady is a small image of Den Helder Lighthouse. This is a personalized stamp issued by PostNL.

An explanatory note to the readers

A postage stamp design that was rejected because it showed too much of a woman’s breast has been approved after the artist pasted the word ‘censored’ over the offending area.

Artist Ap Kooistra and stamp dealer Cees van der Wel submitted the portrait of a blonde woman in a transparent blouse via PostNL’s website. The woman has the slogan ‘I love Den Helder’ tattooed over the top of her left breast. 

However, PostNL said the design was a ‘provocative image’ as defined by the law on postal communications, which says stamp must not be offensive, insulting or immoral. It is understood that Kooistra’s work was turned down because the nipples were visible under the blouse.

Van der Wel described the controversy as the ‘nipplegate of Den Helder’ and resubmitted the portrait with a black strip and the word ‘Censuur’ covering the woman’s nipples. PostNL has now approved the design

# 400 - Augustin Fresnel - Inventor of Fresnel Lense

What a way to mark post # 400 in my blog. It is a great honor to feature the stamp issued by La Poste, France honoring  Augustin Fresnel (1728 - 1927)

It is a coincidence that I received two covers today from two good friends, both collectors of stamps on Lighthouses and related matters. So I will up load both here. The 1st (at the top) is from Daniel from France and the 2nd (at the bottom) is from Reto from Switzerland. It was the order in which I opened the mail today. Thank you very much to both Daniel and Reto for sending me these covers.

On this cover you can see from L-R Hesaki and Kannonzaki Lighthouses. These stamps were issued on 03.09.2018 along with three other stamps featured on post # 398.  Kannonzaki Lighthouse is featured on two of the five stamps.
